Women and Food

Research Chloe Wise’s paintings made me interested in exploring more of the relationship between women and food. Particularly because I became aware of the relations between them in social media and advertising still being quite prevalent today. I was home in Senegal over Christmas, and there the culture has quite strong gender roles, which oftentimes are reflected in the advertising. Such as in the pictures below, almost all food related adverts will not only have pictures of women promoting it, but the food products themselves are named after traditional Senegalese women’s names. Almost indirectly relating women to consumption.

Also seeing the Love Magazine advent calendar, and Emily Ratajowski’s video in particular where she is rolling in pasta in lingerie. I could see the relation of sex and food which I may touch upon in my project.
